The woman from Nidwalden wins the Davos mountain spectacle ahead of Seraina Leugger and Ramona Forchini. The late entrant Matthias Flückiger triumphs solo in the third race with an impressive almost 2-minute lead over Lars Forster.
Race report Davos
In the week before the race, Mathias Flückiger withdrew from the race in Davos. The training session in St. Moritz, with a focus on the Olympic Games in Paris, took priority. However, the preparations went so well that the Bernese mountain biker decided at the last minute to compete in Davos after all, and he confidently secured the day's victory. Already in the second of nine laps, Flückiger was able to break away from his pursuers and subsequently continuously expand his lead.
While the fight for the day's victory was quickly decided, an exciting duel developed behind him for the remaining podium places. Lars Forster, Luca Schätti, Andri Frischknecht, and Joel Roth stayed together until the last lap. Then, first Forster and later Schätti were able to break away from the pursuers and secure second and third place, respectively.
Alessandra Keller entered the elite women's race as the heavy favorite. Keller is the leader in the world rankings, wears the leader's jersey in the Cross Country World Cup overall standings, is first in the Short Track World Cup overall standings, and also leads the ÖKK BIKE REVOLUTION with confidence. She took on the race in Davos as an intense training session on her way to the Olympic Games in Paris.
Her competitors quickly realized that she was in top form. Only Seraina Leugger and Ramona Forchini were able to keep up with the Swiss for at least part of the race. Keller managed her lead confidently and secured her second win of the season in the Swiss racing series.
Over 600 active bikers enjoyed a great weekend in the highest city in Europe. The national mountain bike festival offers not only top-level sports but also many activities for children and recreational athletes.
The fourth race of this year's ÖKK BIKE REVOLUTION season will take place in Gruyère on September 7-8, 2024.
